We have Marianne here today with us to share some of her insights about attracting quality candidate in this tight market. I know that all of us have experienced this problem at one point in hiring process. So what makes attracting quality candidates harder than before? 🙄
First, with the low unemployment rate at 3.7% and job growth at 2.6%, it means there is more jobs than candidate. This makes hiring much harder because you have to be very competitive with other companies if you want good candidates. With more of the Millennials and Gen-Z joining the workforce, having a high pay, clear job description, great benefit packages, and potential of growth will make the hiring easier. We, staffing agencies, are here to help you whenever you need it. Let we lift up the weight on your shoulder and find you a great candidate! 🙂
Q: The economy is great and we need to hire more team members! We have raised our wages and aren’t sure why we aren’t attracting more candidates?
A: Everyone hiring is feeling the same thing right now. We have 2 things at play our unemployment rate is at a historically low 3.7%, and on the other side job growth continues at a strong 2.6% over the last 12 months. So we have less people to pick from that are unemployed and more jobs that need filling. That being said, filling temporary and temp-to-hire spots are harder to fill than direct hire, because we can recruit from the currently employed pool for the direct hire spots, so it gives us more people to pick from.
So to attract more candidates:
- Have your position be a direct hire
- Make sure your wages are in market to a bit higher than in market
- Have a clear job description and lay out your benefits and perks that your company offers.
Until next time!
