Hi,
Marianne is here with us today to share her thoughts and opinion about the matter of finding more candidates nowadays. It is now has become like a trend where you would find a few qualified candidates (1-2 people) for your position. How would you handle it? What strategies do you have? Let’s hear what Marianne says about it.
Q: In the past, when I would interview for open positions, I would find 7 – 8 candidates that were very qualified and matched the position well. Now I am finding only 1 – 2 candidates that are qualified−is everyone else in this situation too?
A: The answer is YES. We have the lowest unemployment rate that we have had for years. Since the recession of 2008, our economy has really picked up, but we haven’t created enough jobs to make up for the low unemployment rate. Hiring in this market requires a swift and quick hiring decision; do not hesitate to bring in the qualified candidates, because if you do not, the other guys will. There are plenty of good opportunities for the qualified candidates, so if you wait to bring them back for a second interview or make them an offer they will lose interest and move on to the next opportunity.
