Marianne is here today to share some of her ideas on improving the hiring!
Q: I want to improve my hiring in 2017, do you have any suggestions for me?
A: Here are some suggestions for your successful hiring in 2017:
- Welcome new employees and set them up for success (on-boarding): Give them a training schedule, provide useful resources for employees when they’re having problems, give them a warm welcome, and the biggest thing of all is to make sure you have the full team’s support on hiring the new person.
- Pay mid to high range: Portland is still in a very low unemployment rate, so you don’t want to lose good talents to companies that are paying higher wages. Start with the right pay from the get go, so it’ll make them feel welcomed and their first impression will be a lasting one.
- Set up weekly meetings (or special time as we call them): This way, team members know they have a set time to talk to their supervisor to express or ask any questions that they’re having.
- Offer any benefits or perks you can to staff: Perks don’t have to be expensive. They can be simple and thoughtful: a place for people to change and leave their bike gear, a nice lunch room, plenty of healthy food, or wellness benefits (like massages, personal trainers or gym memberships) are some suggestions which I have found to help my employees feel welcomed.
Have a fun weekend 😎
